Durg. The electricity distribution company is continuously ignoring the problem of meter readers of Chhattisgarh’s government power company. After the installation of smart meters, all these meter readers are facing the threat of unemployment, this is the reason why spot billing and meter reading workers went on a 5-day strike, which turned out to be inconclusive. Now after this, all the readers have gone on an indefinite strike. Readers have gone on strike in all the districts across the state.
People have been doing meter reading work in the electricity distribution company for years, which helps people meet their household expenses, but now after the installation of smart meters, these readers will no longer be needed. This is the reason that due to the fear of unemployment, all the readers are demanding some other work for themselves in the company, but till now no assurance has been received from the company. In this regard, today they have given a notice to the chairman of the company. Before going on an indefinite strike, the Spot Billing and Meter Reading Shramik Contract Employees Union had gone on a 5-day strike regarding their demands.
During this time, the company management did not pay any attention to their demands. Earlier also, the union has discussed this issue many times but the company is not at all concerned about so many people becoming unemployed. Angered by this, the federation has announced to go on an indefinite strike from November 6. Due to this indefinite strike, reading work will not be done in the month of November, due to which consumers will not get electricity bills for this month.
