Chhattisgarh’s work in green energy Chief Minister Vishnudev said that Chhattisgarh is rapidly moving towards the production of electricity from solar energy, hydel energy and biogas. The electricity consumption in the state is 5500 MW. About 15 percent of the electricity in the state is being produced from renewable energy sources. Our target is to increase it to 45 percent in the coming time. The Chief Minister said that more than 2500 government buildings, ashram hostels and health centres in Chhattisgarh are lit by solar energy. For this, CREDA was appreciated internationally in the year 2018. He said that with the PM Suryaghar Yojana started by the Prime Minister, the common man of the country will now become a seller of electricity instead of a buyer. By organizing ward-wise camps in urban areas, people are being made aware about this scheme and forms are being filled on the spot. A solar plant has been installed on railway land in Charoda between Chhattisgarh’s capital Raipur and Bhilai. Local trains of Raipur and Durg are running from this solar plant. Similarly, there are natural hot water springs in Tatapani of Balrampur district. It has been decided to install a 100 kilowatt geothermal power plant here.

Solar irrigation pumps are also being used for irrigation in farming in the state. More than 1.5 lakh solar irrigation pumps have been installed in the farmers’ fields by CREDA. Similarly, 230 solar community irrigations are being operated through solar pumps in the state. About 25 thousand solar drinking water pumps have been installed in the state. Six and a half lakh families are getting pure drinking water from these.

Chief Minister Sai said that small mini hydroelectric power plants have also been established in Chhattisgarh, which are producing 75 MW of energy. 37 small hydroelectric power projects have been approved in the state. The Chief Minister said that Prime Minister Shri Modi has set the target of zero carbon emissions by the year 2070. Chhattisgarh will also play a major role in this direction.
