Raipur: The arrest of Congress MLA Devendra Yadav has further led to political upheaval in the state. The opposition party has criticized the government for allegedly using it for an operation of mass arrest of Congress leaders. Yadav’s arrest has been described by the former chief minister, Bhupesh Baghel, as a politically motivated move to trap Congress members.

In this context, let me clarify that there is no political motive for arresting Mr Gadling and six other civil liberties activists, as Chief Minister Vishnudev has categorically said no to such an aspect. For his part, Sai also emphasized that the police would act with great care and saw no politicking here. He clarified that Devendra Yadav is not a ‘mere nobody’ and there were reasonable pretexts for his arrest.

Bhupesh Baghel, however, demands the release of the youth and insists that it is an attempt to frame Congress leaders for the arrest. Baghel has also accused the BJP of not questioning the BJP’s ex-MLA Sanam Jangde in the case, which he states has become a bogus investigation. He has urged for less biased policemen and promised that Congress will not only resist arrest but also seek legal counsel and other political measures.

This gave politics an inflamed color, and the opponents were bent on spitting fire as the arrest of Devendra Yadav proved to be the center of controversy. The situation can hardly be regarded as unique, for it is quite typical for such trials; it underlines political motifs and accusations about the case, claiming that they indicate significant difficulties experienced by societies when it comes to finding a fair and objective approach to the defendants of influential and powerful figures. Another example is when the Congress party does not seem to accept the arrest but is willing and ready to seek legal and political redress, proving there must be a proper investigation without bias.
