An important decision to constitute Guru Ghasidas-Tamor Pingla Tiger Reserve was taken in a cabinet meeting held today at the residence of the Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai.
As per the recommendation of the meeting of the State Wildlife Board by the Council of Ministers and the consent of the National Tiger Conservation Authority of the Ministry of Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, it has been decided to notify Guru Ghasidas-Tamor Pingla Tiger Reserve in an area of 2829.387 sq km, including the areas of Guru Ghasidas National Park and Tamor Pingla Sanctuary located in Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur, Korea, Surajpur and Balrampur districts. The Forest and Climate Change Department has been authorized to take further action for its formation.
The formation of the Tiger Reserve will lead to the development of eco-tourism in the state and will also generate various types of employment opportunities for the villagers living in the core and buffer areas like guides, tourist vehicles, resort operations etc. Additional budget will be received from the National Project Tiger Authority to work in the Tiger Reserve so that new livelihood development works can be done in the villages of the region.
