The second convocation of Hemchand Yadav University concluded
68 students got research degrees and 48 got gold medals

The second convocation of Hemchand Yadav University of Durg was held today in the dignified presence of Governor Shri Ramen Deka and Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai. In this convocation held in the auditorium of BIT Durg, 68 students were awarded research degrees and 48 students were awarded gold medals for coming first in the merit list in various classes.
Addressing the ceremony, Governor Shri Ramen Deka said that it is a matter of great pleasure for me to be among all of you to be a part of the second convocation of Hemchand Yadav University Durg Chhattisgarh. I congratulate all the researchers who received PhD and the students who received gold medals for their excellent performance in their respective examinations. I also want to congratulate the teachers, parents and guardians who supported their children during their studies. Governor Shri Deka said that the Chhattisgarh Government is implementing the National Education Policy 2020 from the current academic year 2024-25. NEP 2020 emphasizes the need for skill development along with education. It aims to prepare students for entrepreneurship, and make them ‘job creators’ instead of becoming ‘job seekers’. Now all of you are entering a new field of your life. Huge challenges and opportunities await you in the future. This is the moment to take important decisions of life. It is a day of celebration, a day when you remember the many challenges you have overcome and look forward to the challenges that lie ahead, knowing that you have the skills and knowledge needed to face them. To excel in your chosen profession or career it is essential that you constantly strive to gain more knowledge and also update and equip yourself with the latest knowledge in the field in addition to developing your soft skills and becoming a good human being.
Governor Shri Deka quoted Dr. Nelson Mandela and said that “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” now it is up to you to prove it. I advise all of you to try to work for the society at large and contribute to innovation, entrepreneurship and start-ups which are the need of the hour. Look at this moment as a move from a protected environment to an environment where you have to constantly learn from the world, said the Governor.
The Governor said that the world may change from top to bottom, but some core values never change. They are honesty, truthfulness, respect for self and others, hard work, personal integrity. Today it is your duty to ensure that these core values are not defeated. Development cannot be sustained without social equity. This University has shown an exemplary commitment since its inception in 2015. In these times where innovations are becoming the drivers of social change, young students like you are expected to always put in that extra effort so that you can give back to the society more than what you have received from it. Development cannot be sustained without social equity. This University, Durg is progressing strongly in every field like research, NSS, NCC, Youth Red Cross, sports, cultural and extra-curricular activities. Recently the students of this University have won awards in various NSS programmes, youth festivals and sports in the year 2023-24. The five MoUs signed by the University with national level institutions are truly remarkable.
The Governor said that I am very happy to know that the colleges affiliated to this University have also performed excellently during the NAAC accreditation process. The Governor said that one should use one’s education to give voice to the voiceless in the society, to work for the upliftment of the oppressed and the less fortunate. The Governor wished all the students being honored today all the best for their future endeavours.
Addressing the function, Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai announced the construction of UTD in the university and auditorium in the under-construction building on the demand of the Vice Chancellor of the University. He said that the Chhattisgarh government has implemented the National Education Policy-2020 in the entire state from the academic session 2024-25. This will not only give our students an opportunity to choose subjects according to their interest but they will also be able to get a good job according to their skills or establish their own business. He said that the Prime Minister of the country, Shri Narendra Modi, has set a target of making India developed by 2047. Chhattisgarh is working rapidly towards playing its part in this goal. We all have to contribute according to our skills in the construction of a developed India. The Chhattisgarh government is striving to do remarkable work in the field of education, health and environment. The establishment of PM Shri schools is a great example of this.
Expressing happiness, the Chief Minister said that under the PM Shri scheme, 193 primary level schools and 18 higher secondary level schools are being developed in the first phase in Chhattisgarh state. Under the PM Shri scheme, 52 schools of Chhattisgarh have been approved in the third phase. Chief Minister Shri Sai assured that with the mutual coordination of the state government and the central government, our government will put Chhattisgarh in the queue of developed states. Chief Minister Shri Sai said that within a period of 09 years of establishment, Hemchand Yadav University Durg has achieved many successes. The construction work of the new building of the university at Potiyakala, Durg is in the final stage with the amount of Rs 15 crore provided through PM-Usha Yojana. Soon the university will start operating in its new building. The state government is taking many steps in the interest of the students. Recently on July 21, after a long gap of five years, we have successfully conducted the Chhattisgarh State Eligibility Test 2024. The vacant posts of Assistant Professors in government colleges will be filled through Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission. Every Sunday, some competitive examination is being organised by Vyapam in the state.
The Chief Minister said that the construction work of auditorium in the Science College campus of Durg is incomplete, in this regard, the concerned have been directed to complete it. Durg Science College, one of the 158 colleges affiliated to Hemchand Yadav University, has got ‘A Plus’ grade by NAAC Bangalore, while 04 other private colleges have got ‘A’ grade. 09 colleges under this university have received ‘B Double Plus’ grade. This is a matter of pride. The Chief Minister congratulated the university family. More than one thousand researchers are registered for PhD in Hemchand Yadav University, which is a record in itself. The students here have achieved success at the national level in research work and academic activities.
Chief Minister Shri Sai said that keeping in mind the interest of the educated youth of Chhattisgarh state, the state government has extended the period of relaxation of 05 years in the maximum age limit prescribed for government service for another five years. The youth will get its benefit till the year 2028. Hemchand Yadav University Durg is continuously playing a leading role in the field of higher education. I believe that such convocations are meaningful only when after receiving higher education, the youth can make their excellent contribution in nation building as a responsible citizen. Chief Minister Shri Sai congratulated and wished all the graduates, postgraduates and PhD degree holders and gold medal winning students, their parents and teachers participating in the convocation. On the demand of the Vice Chancellor of the University, Chief Minister Shri Sai announced the construction of UTD in the university and auditorium in the under-construction building.
In the ceremony, Educationist Dr. Atul Kothari, Secretary, Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas, Delhi, delivered the convocation address. Vice Chancellor Dr. Aruna Palta presented the welcome address and administered the convocation oath to the students. On this occasion, MLAs Shri Lalit Chandrakar, Shri Gajendra Yadav and Shri Rakesh Sen, Educationist Dr. Atul Kothari, Secretary, Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas, Delhi, Vice Chancellor of the University Dr. Aruna Palta, Registrar Shri Bhupendra Kuldeep, local public representatives, professors, parents and students of the University were present in large number
