New Delhi. The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the names of two senior advocates for appointment as judges in the Chhattisgarh High Court. The Collegium has included the names of advocates Bibhu Dutta Guru and Amitendra Kishore Prasad (AK Prasad). Let us tell you that earlier on February 21, the Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court had recommended the names of these advocates to the collegium after consulting with his two senior-most colleagues. The Chief Minister and Governor of Chhattisgarh have agreed to this recommendation.

As per parliamentary procedure, the views of a Supreme Court judge familiar with the cases of the Chhattisgarh High Court were sought, but the sole advisory judge refused to give his opinion as one of the names in the recommended list was that of his relative. After this, the material on record was reviewed to assess the eligibility and suitability of the candidates. The comments received from the Department of Justice and the complaints received against the candidates were also considered. After which consensus was reached on the names of advocates Bibhu Dutta Guru and Amitendra Kishore Prasad (A.K. Prasad).

  1. Bibhu Dutta Guru

According to the report of the Department of Justice, nothing adverse has been found against the integrity of advocate Bibhu Dutta Guru. He has represented many cases in the High Court, details of which are in 54 reported judgments. Taking into account his age and reputation in the bar, the Collegium has considered him suitable to be appointed as a judge of the High Court.

  1. Amitendra Kishore Prasad (A.K. Prasad)

According to the report of the Department of Justice, the personal and professional image of advocate Amitendra Kishore Prasad is good and nothing adverse has been found against his integrity. He has a wide practice, which is detailed in 110 reported judgments. Taking into account his age and reputation in the bar, the Collegium has considered him suitable to be appointed as a judge of the High Court.

The Collegium has recommended the appointment of advocates Bibhu Dutta Guru and Amitendra Kishore Prasad as Judges of the Chhattisgarh High Court, taking into account their personal and professional image, their inter-se seniority to be decided as per existing practice.
