Mungeli. Collector Rahul Dev has taken cognizance of the issue of wastewater being released into the Shivnath river in Dhuma village of Patharia block of the district. A letter has also been written to the Environment Protection Board in this regard. Also, a show cause notice has been issued to the company’s director under Section 133 of the Code of Criminal Procedure 1973.
It is worth noting that complaints were being received about the wastewater of Bhatia Wine Merchant Limited located in Dhuma being released into the Shivnath river. Due to this, there was a possibility of harm to the villagers, animals and aquatic life of the surrounding villages. Taking cognizance of this on the instructions of the Collector, Patharia SDM BR Thakur has issued a notice to the operator of Bhatia Wine Merchant Limited and sought a reply, so that strict action can be taken against the negligence.
Millions of fish died
In fact, lakhs of fishes have died in the Shivnath river passing through Sargaon area. It is feared that the deaths have happened due to the release of contaminated water of the liquor factory into the river. The water of the river has also become dirty due to contaminated waste material. The SDM had earlier also sent a letter to the manager of Bhatia Wine Factory expressing apprehension about the danger to aquatic life due to release of contaminated water of the liquor factory into the river.
