Religious knowledge: According to the Hindu calendar, the fourth month is Ashadha. Ashadha month has started from Saturday, June 22. This month is named after Purvashadha and Uttarashadha constellations, so on the full moon of this month, the moon remains in these two constellations. Many major festivals like Devshayani Ekadashi, Chaturmas Prarambh, Gupt Navratri, Guru Purnima will come in the month of Ashadha. This month is considered very important from the astrological and spiritual point of view, because in this month Lord Vishnu goes into Yog Nidra and Chaturmas is also starting. What to do in the month of Ashadh

  • In the month of Ashadh, wake up every day in the Brahma Muhurta, worship Tulsi and chant the mantra.
  • Chant the mantras Om Namo Bhagvate Vasudevay, Om Namah Shivay, Om Ramdutaya Namah, Om Kreem Krishnaya Namah and Om Ram Ramay Namah.
  • Offer water to Sun God every day and recite Aditya Hridaya Stotra.
  • In this month, it is customary to worship Lord Vishnu, Mother Lakshmi, Lord Shiva, Mother Parvati and Sun God.
  • By giving charity, performing yagna, fasting, worshipping gods and ancestors in the month of Ashadh, fortune opens up and happiness is attained.
  • Help the poor and needy people and donate money, clothes, umbrella, water, grains etc.
  • There is special importance of going on pilgrimage in the month of Ashadh. Doing so provides physical and spiritual benefits.
  • Ashadh month starts from 22nd June and ends on 21st July, after which Sawan month will begin.

What not to do in the month of Ashadh

  • Brinjal, lentil, cabbage, garlic, onion should not be consumed in the month of Ashadh.
  • Stay away from meat, fish, alcohol, other intoxicants and immoral acts in this month.
  • During this time, leafy vegetables, green vegetables should not be eaten at all and oily food items should be avoided.
  • Stay away from things like anger, ego, pride etc. in this month.
  • Do not insult anyone or use foul language during this month. Also, do not send back any person who comes to your home empty-handed.
