Jagdalpur. The Gobar gas plant built at Donghat by spending Rs 35 lakh seems to be dying. A year ago, the Municipal Corporation and Chhattisgarh Biofuel Development Authority had jointly started this scheme. Former CM Bhupesh Baghel had inaugurated this plant. Actually, it was expected that electricity would be generated in the first biogas plant of Chhattisgarh, after which biogas plants would be established in other places of the state also. But this plan of Municipal Corporation and Chhattisgarh Biofuel Development Authority seems to be locked. In the initial phase of inauguration of the plant, 590 units of electricity was also produced. According to the plan, the electricity produced in the plant was to be sold to the power distribution company, but this could not be done. To operate the plant, cow dung also had to be purchased from cattle farmers at the rate of Rs 2 per kg.

In this matter, Corporation Commissioner Harish Mandavi says that 500 kg of cow dung is required every day for the operation of the plant, but the corporation is not able to get this amount of cow dung. Therefore the plant has been closed for a few days. The corporation is also considering using other waste as an alternative to cow dung.
