Vice President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar will attend the 38th Foundation Day celebrations of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University as the Chief Guest on 20 January. On this occasion, Shri Dhankhar will also inaugurate three products made from Sanjeevani, a new variety of paddy which is effective in increasing the body’s immunity developed by the Agricultural University. This variety has been developed through research conducted by Indira Gandhi Agricultural University in collaboration with Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai. On this occasion, the Vice President will also inaugurate two seminars organized by Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, one of which will focus on startups, innovation and entrepreneurship development in the field of agriculture and the other seminar will focus on agriculture, nutrition and public health. On this occasion, Shri Dhankhar will also release the farmer-friendly “Agricultural Almanac 2024” published by the Agricultural University. The ceremony will be presided over by Chhattisgarh Governor Shri Vishwabhushan Harichandan. Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Arun Sao and Shri Vijay Sharma, Agriculture Minister Shri Ramvichar Netam as special guests and MP Raipur Shri Sunil Soni, Dharsiwa MLA Shri Anuj Sharma and Raipur Rural MLA Shri Sunil Soni as special guests in the ceremony. Motilal Sahu will also be present.
    In the Foundation Day function, Vice President Shri Dhankhar will inaugurate three products Sanjeevani Instant, Sanjeevani Madhu Kalk and Sanjeevani Rice Bar made from Sanjeevani, an immunobooster and anti-cancer variety of paddy developed by Indira Gandhi Agricultural University. It is noteworthy that scientists of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, using the traditional knowledge of Chhattisgarh, have developed a new medicinal variety of paddy “Sanjeevani”, which has been found useful in increasing the body’s immunity and preventing cancer cells. . Sanjeevani has been developed by selection from traditional indigenous medicinal paddy varieties of Chhattisgarh. After detailed analysis of the scientific basis of its medicinal properties, a species has been developed which is capable of increasing the body’s immunity and after using it for just 10 days, a significant increase in immunity has been observed. This variety has been developed through research done for the last six years in collaboration with Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai.
On the occasion of the foundation day of the university, a one-day seminar is also being organized to discuss the possibilities and challenges of innovation and entrepreneurship in the field of agriculture, in which eminent experts of the country and the state will be present on various topics related to agriculture-based startups and innovation. Experts will guide the youth and students. In the seminar, discussions will be held on government policies for food and nutrition security, role of startups in innovation, upgradation of agricultural industries, industrial policy for promotion of innovation, development of entrepreneurship through agricultural exports, etc. Startup entrepreneurs, innovative students, industrial establishments, investors, government institutions, agricultural producers’ associations, progressive farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs will participate in this seminar. In the seminar, topics like startup and entrepreneurship development, relations with markets and industries, networking opportunities, upgradation of knowledge and technology will be discussed and products manufactured by new startups will be showcased. Success stories of successful startups will also be told during the seminar.
A seminar on agricultural nutrition and public health is being organized to create public awareness about nutritious food, importance of micronutrients and nutrient-rich diet. In this seminar, policies and rules related to food fortification, biofortification and functional foods, nutritious food products and nutritional safety, role of food industries in the field of public health, distribution and use will be discussed. In the seminar, representatives of agriculture, food and civil supplies, health, women and child development, school education (midday meal) of Chhattisgarh government, representatives of agricultural universities, medical colleges, science colleges and other universities, United Nations World Food Programme, Bill and Representatives of Melinda Gates Foundation, progressive farmers, representatives of food and agriculture industries will also participate.
It is noteworthy that Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Raipur was established on 20 January 1987. This university has been given the responsibility of agricultural education, research and extension in Chhattisgarh state, which the university is running through its 28 colleges, 08 research centers and 27 agricultural science centres. After the establishment of the university, about 162 species of 52 crops have been developed and more than 100 technologies have been developed to get maximum benefits from agriculture. In the foundation day ceremony, Vice Chancellor of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Dr. Girish Chandel, Registrar Mr. G.K. Senior administrative officers of the University including Nirmaam, senior officers of various government departments, progressive farmers and a large number of students will be present.
