Raipur. The nationwide strike by drivers, which continued for two days in protest against the hit and run case, has ended. This decision has been taken in the meeting of All India Transport Congress chaired by the Union Home Secretary. The government has said that the new rule on hit and run cases will not be implemented yet. After this assurance from the government, the transporters have decided to end the strike.
New rule will not be implemented now – Union Home Secretary
On the meeting of All India Transport Congress, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla said, “We discussed with the representatives of All India Transport Congress today. The government wants to point out that the provisions of the new law and penalty have not yet been implemented. He said, before implementing Section 106(2) of the Indian Judicial Code, discussions will be held with the All India Transport Congress. The final decision will be taken only after listening to the concerns of the drivers and transporters. All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) President Amrit Lal Madan appealed to end the deadlock after the meeting with the Home Secretary. He told the drivers, you are not just our drivers, you are soldiers. We do not want you to face any inconvenience. He said, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has assured that the government will ban the provision of 10 years’ imprisonment and fine under the law. According to Amrit Lal Madan, no law will be implemented till the next meeting of All India Motor Transport Congress.
It is noteworthy that, amid the controversy over the law related to hit and run, transporters and drivers went on strike across the country. Seeing the outrage against the law, the Home Ministry immediately intervened. Reconciliation was reached after the meeting between the Union Home Secretary and the transporters. Now all the transporters will leave the protest and return to work immediately.
