Raipur. Former Deputy Chief Minister TS Singhdev has requested to meet Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia to issue license to Maa Mahamaya Airport Darima and start commercial flights soon. On Friday, TS Singhdev met Jyotiraditya Scindia at the Civil Aviation Ministry established in Rajiv Bhawan located at Safdarjung Airport. During this, the Civil Aviation Minister said that 4 small airports in the country are his priority, which also includes Ambikapur Airport. The licensing process for this airport is in the advanced stage.
The Civil Aviation Minister said that soon air service will be made available to the residents of Ambikapur as well as Surguja area. In discussion with the Civil Aviation Minister, TS Singhdev requested that initially the flights from Ambikapur to Raipur and from Ambikapur to Varanasi should be started on priority basis, on which Scindia has agreed. It is noteworthy that 2 years ago, the previous flight of Chhattisgarh The Congress government had approved an amount of about Rs 43 crore for the upgradation of Maa Mahamaya Airport. Using this amount, the airport was prepared for the purpose of landing 72 seater commercial planes as well as civil flights. In May 2023, the DGCA team, after examining this airport, had asked to rectify some shortcomings. In July 2023, these shortcomings were rectified and its report was sent to DGCA. Since then the licensing process of Darima Airport was pending. After TS Singhdev’s meeting with the Aviation Minister today, it is hoped that soon Surguja region will avail the benefits of air facilities.
