Preparation to bring no-confidence motion against Raipur Mayor: Leader said in BJP councilor party meeting – Many Congress councilors are in touch

As soon as the government changed in Chhattisgarh, the exercise to remove the mayor of Raipur has started. The meeting of the BJP councilor group is going on in the Municipal Corporation office on Tuesday afternoon to bring a no-confidence motion against Mayor Ajaz Dhebar. If BJP leaders are to be believed, many Congress councilors are in touch with them. BJP leaders are talking about conveying the details of the meeting to the organization. Many BJP councilors including Meenal Choubey, Deputy Leader of Opposition Manoj Verma are present in the meeting.

Let us tell you that before this, a meeting of Congress councilors was held at the house of former minister Mohammad Akbar in Maudhapara till late night on Monday. In which Mayor Ejaz Dhebar, MIC member Akash Sharma along with many Congress leaders were present. A meeting of mayor and councilors was held at Mohammad Akbar’s house. Mohammad Akbar was also present in it. After about one and a half hour of meeting, everyone came out. Dainik Bhaskar questioned the Mayor regarding the no-confidence motion but he did not respond to it. Leader of Opposition said- Mayor should resign.

Municipal Corporation Leader of Opposition Meenal Choubey said that BJP government has come to power in Chhattisgarh with full majority. The people of Raipur city have also given support to BJP. The Mayor should immediately resign from his post on moral grounds. Many independent councilors of the Municipal Corporation who had represented the state in Congress are in touch with us. Congress has expelled its councilor Ajit Kukreja. They will be talked to. Opinion is also being taken from the organization in this matter. Noise of Kukreja joining BJP

Amidst this murmur which intensified on Monday evening, one thing also came to light that Ajit Kukreja may join BJP on Tuesday. According to information received from sources, it is reported that Mayor Ejaz Dhebar made a phone call to Kukreja regarding this. However, Kukreja is denying the idea of joining BJP.

Kukreja told Dainik Bhaskar that he has no knowledge about the no-confidence motion. If such a situation arises, I will remain neutral. If I am not with Congress, it does not mean that I support BJP.

Such is the situation of councilors in Municipal Corporation

In Raipur Municipal Corporation having 70 wards, Congress has 39 councilors and BJP has 31 councilors. During the Municipal Corporation elections, 7 independent councilors had won. Of them, 3 councilors had joined BJP. Whereas 4 independent councilors had joined Congress. Leader of Opposition Meenal Choubey is trying to woo Congress councilors along with BJP to bring no-confidence against the Mayor.

36 councilors needed to become mayor

At present there are 70 seats in Raipur Municipal Corporation. Any party needs the support of 36 councilors to become its mayor. At present there are 31 BJP councilors and 39 Congress councilors in the corporation. BJP needs 5 councilors to become its mayor. Recently, councilor Ajit Kukreja, rebelling against the Congress, contested the North Assembly elections as an independent candidate, due to which he was expelled by the party. Apart from this, Congress councilors are also angry with the Mayor.
