Raipur: General holiday declared in the respective assembly constituencies on voting day

Employees of industrial and commercial institutions will also get paid leave for voting.

Private sector employees working in the state will get paid leave for voting in neighboring states.

General holiday has been declared in the concerned areas on 17th November, the polling day for the second phase of voting for the Assembly General Election-2023 in Chhattisgarh. In this regard, under the order issued by the Chhattisgarh General Administration Department, a general holiday has been declared in all government offices and institutions in the respective 70 assembly constituencies on November 17, 2023 for the second phase. Apart from this, instructions have been issued to give paid leave to officers and employees in private institutions, industrial and commercial establishments. 

         As per the instructions of the Election Commission, the Labor Department has issued an order to give paid leave on polling day to the employees working in industrial, commercial and other establishments for the Assembly elections. It is mentioned in the order that under Section 135 (b) of the Public Representation Act 151, industrial, commercial and other establishments operating in every constituency should ensure that paid leave is given to the employees on the voting day.  

As per the instructions of the Commission, in the neighboring states of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana, where the voting date for the Assembly General Elections 2023 is fixed on 17th November and 30th November respectively, many voters of the said neighboring states who are working in private or public establishments/shops, industrial undertakings or business/in Chhattisgarh. Those employed/working relatives who are employed in business have also been declared a paid holiday on the polling day of their home state.  

It has been clarified in the order that in those factories which work seven days a week, first and second shift workers should be declared a holiday of two hours each on the day of voting and in the factories which come under continuous process, workers should be given a holiday of two hours each. Workers should be provided the facility to vote out of turn. Voting facility will be provided to all working workers or employees, whether they are daily wage earners or casual workers.
