Advertisements that mislead voters will be banned

The Election Commission of India has given comprehensive guidelines regarding stopping the publication of advertisements of misleading nature in electronic and social media as well as print media in the Chhattisgarh Assembly Elections 2023. Under this, pre-certification of political advertisements published in print media on the voting day and one day before it is necessary.
Giving information about the circular issued in this regard from the Election Commission of India, Chief Electoral Officer Mrs. Reena Babasaheb Kangale said that for the Chhattisgarh Assembly elections, a day before and on the voting day of the first phase (i.e. on 6 and 7 November 2023) and Before publishing political advertisements in print media one day before the voting day of the second phase and on the voting day (i.e. on 16 and 17 November 2023), pre-certification of advertisements from the district or state level media certification committee has been made mandatory. For this, the Election Commission of India has instructed the state level and district level media certification committees to take quick decisions on the applications received for certification.
The Chief Electoral Officer said that after the publication of advertisements of misleading nature in the print media before the voting day and on the voting date, the parties or candidates who are affected by it do not have the opportunity of any kind of clarification or denial. In such a situation, pre-certification of advertisements is necessary for free, transparent and fair elections.
