On Saturday, BJP workers from Jashpur surrounded the state BJP office in Raipur. Due to their displeasure, the party has to field Raimuni Bhagat as its candidate from Jashpur Assembly. All these people are supporters of senior tribal leader Ganeshram Bhagat, former minister and MLA from Jashpur.

People from about 150 villages of Jashpur, 700 kilometers away from Raipur, reached Raipur by donating among themselves. In the state office, the security personnel stopped these people at the gate itself. Angered by this, BJP workers and villagers staged a protest outside the gate by placing tribal instruments, stoves and ration bags. Rural candidates also kept raising slogans of ‘Badalbo’. Slogans of ‘Badal ke Rahibo’ were raised.
Chhattisgarh Bharatiya Janata Party President Arun Sao had given the election slogan a few months ago, ‘Au Nayi Sahibo, Badal Ke Rahibo’. This slogan was to change the Congress government of the state. But the same slogan was used by the workers from Jashpur to change their candidate. Not only this, a poster was also hung at the gate of the state office with ‘Change Jashpur assembly candidate’ written on it. Big leaders did not meet till late night.
No big leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party met these workers demanding change of candidate. After a long time, Chhagan Mundra came to persuade them, but all the villagers said that they were not going to move until their demands were met. Naresh Gupta, who is in charge of the state BJP office, was also seen trying to talk to him from time to time, but the villagers did not listen to him. Why is Raimuni Bhagat being opposed?
Raimuni Bhagat is an active woman leader of BJP from Jashpur Assembly. Due to his influence at the Panchayat level, the party is considering him as the winning candidate. At present the Congress MLA from Jashpur is Vinay Kumar Bhagat. Vinay had defeated BJP’s Govind Ram Bhagat in the 2018 elections. Raimuni is not liking the local workers. BJP’s women leader Karuna Bhagat, who came to protest, said that last time when the party had made Govind Ram Bhagat its candidate, Raimuni Bhagat had started working against the party candidate. Why support Ganesh Ram Bhagat?

Anuranjan Bhagat, who came from Jashpur, said that we were not even allowed to enter the state office, this is a matter of great sadness. We are protesting by sitting outside here. In Jashpur, Ganesh Ram Bhagat led many movements for the interests of the local tribals. He is a great tribal leader. We are saddened by his being sidelined in this way.

Jashpur’s local BJP leader Shivram Bhagat said that Ganesh Ram Bhagat has been continuously working on issues like cow slaughter and religious conversion. Raimuni Bhagat did not do any such work that he should be given the assembly ticket. Nor does anyone like him, yet a good man has been ignored by giving him the ticket. Ganesh Ram Bhagat was a councilor turned minister.
Ganeshram Bhagat, who was sidelined by the party today by not giving him a ticket, had been a minister in Chhattisgarh. In 1983, Bhagat contested the councilor election for the first time and then in 1985, he was elected MLA from BJP for the first time. After this, he became MLA for the fifth consecutive time in 1990, 1993, 1998 and 2003. In 1993, he was given the responsibility of Parliamentary Secretary. Whereas after winning the elections in 2003, he became the Minister of Forest, Housing and Environment.
