Public awareness campaign launched to stop elephant-human conflict

Like every year, this year also under Marwahi Forest Division, Pendraroad, Wildlife Protection Week program was organized in all the areas of the forest division from 02 October 2023 to 08 October 2023 with the aim of protection and conservation of flora and fauna. D.A.V mainly under Marwahi area. Drawing-painting, slogan, essay and quiz competitions were organized in School Marwahi, Swami Atmanand Vidyalaya Marwahi and Government High School Danikundi, in which children are participating with great enthusiasm.

In Marwahi, a public awareness campaign was conducted to stop elephant-human conflict in elephant-affected villages. Through Gajrath, to reduce elephant-human conflict, public awareness is being created through loud speakers and pamphlets regarding the behavior of elephants and what to do and what not to do when an elephant comes. Along with this, the compensation amount made by Gajraj is being supplied to the villagers through cheque.

During a public awareness campaign to stop human-elephant conflict, villagers were told that information about the arrival of an elephant should be immediately given to the nearest forest employee. Keep adequate lighting in all houses, maintain distance from elephants if you encounter them. When encountered in hilly areas, run towards the slopes. Elephants cannot descend slopes at high speed, but are adept at climbing. Safety related instructions should be compulsorily followed. Do not make any kind of noise or commotion, do not take selfies and photos, do not go near the elephants to chase them away, do not hit the elephants with slingshots, arrows, torches and stones. Use home-made toilets. Do not make or store liquor from country liquor and Mahua. Do not go to the elephant roaming areas for collecting tendu leaves, futu, bamboo or for grazing cattle.

Message of wildlife conservation given through street drama

The message of wildlife conservation is being spread through street plays in the weekly markets organized in the villages and drawing-painting slogans, essays are also being done in Oxford Public School Pendraroad, Government Pre-Secondary School Amadob and Government Higher Secondary School Pakaria under Gourla area. And quiz competition has been organized.
