Raipur, 29 September 2023
On the occasion of conclusion of Hindi Fortnight, a seminar on “Role of Hindi in agricultural education, research and extension activities” was organized at Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Raipur. On this occasion, prizes for slogan, poetry, essay writing and debate competitions organized by Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Raipur were also distributed. The chief guest of the seminar was Raipur Division Commissioner Dr. Sanjay Alang. The program was presided over by Dr. Girish Chandel, Vice Chancellor of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University. Members of the Board of Management of the University, Mr. Anand Mishra and Mrs. Vallari Chandrakar were present as special guests in the seminar.
Chief guest of the seminar, Dr. Sanjay Alang said that the language does not spread by writing poems, stories, essays etc., but by putting it into practice. Today we are communicating in the digital age. Our communication has become easier, but our Hindi has become weak and our vocabulary has decreased. Choice of language is important for good communication.
To communicate the new agricultural research being done by the Agricultural University and its scientists to the farmers and beneficiaries, their local language should be used. So that farmers and beneficiaries can easily understand and include it in their use. He said that if we have to connect farmers with research achievements, then it is necessary to convey our message to them in their language and dialect.
Presiding over the program, Dr. Girish Chandel said that Hindi language has an important role in India. It is the main language spoken and understood by the majority of the country’s population. Therefore, it is necessary that Hindi language be promoted in agricultural education, agricultural research and extension activities. A large number of books are being written in Hindi language for various courses in agriculture but more quality, Quality books need to be written. He said that it has been proved in many surveys that if students are given education in their mother tongue, they absorb it quickly. Getting education in a foreign language is a relatively difficult task for them. Similarly, it has been found in various social surveys that if rural people, especially farmers, are given information about research and extension activities in their mother tongue or local dialect, they are able to understand it quickly.
On this occasion, Managing Board member of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Anand Mishra said that humans learn quickly in their mother tongue. Today our country is progressing in all fields including technology, but in the field of research we are still dependent on other countries. The reason for this is only language. The power to assimilate knowledge comes only from the mother tongue. Today we have to understand the problems of the farmers, their point of view and explain it to them in their own language and dialect. Addressing the function, Smt. Vallari Chandrakar said that along with their classes, students should also devote time to creative work every day. The competitions organized during Hindi Pakhwada are part of them. At the beginning of the program, Dean Student Welfare Dr. Sanjay Sharma, while giving the welcome speech, gave information about various competitions organized in the university from 14 to 29 September during the Hindi seminar.
