The 23rd meeting of the State Level Geological Program Board, Chhattisgarh was held today at Indravati Bhawan under the chairmanship of Special Secretary, Mineral Resources Department, Shri Jai Prakash Maurya. The geo-scientific regional program for the year 2023-24 was finalized in the meeting. Special Secretary Shri Jai Prakash Maurya told in the meeting that in the year 2022-23, mining revenue of about Rs 13000 crore has been received, which is about 30 times more than the year of establishment of the state.
Giving information about the works completed by Geology and Mining Chhattisgarh in the regional session 2022-23 in the meeting, Director Geology and Mining Smt. Divya Umesh Mishra said that in the year 2022-23, total reserves of 2.45 billion tonnes of limestone and 125 million tonnes of iron ore are estimated. Have been done. It was told in the meeting that in the year 2023-24, a total of 45 projects of 12 different minerals have been taken up for exploration and prospecting work in the state. In which exploration of 20 of Iron Ore, 04 of Phosphorite, 04 of Limestone, 04 of Gold, 03 of Glauconite, 02 of Graphite, 02 of Diamond, 02 of REE, 01 of Tungsten, 01 of Lithium, 01 of Bauxite and 01 of Basemetal. -Includes prospecting projects.
In the meeting, the geological work done in the year 2022-23 by the departments and institutions of the Government of India and the State Government working in the field of mineral exploration and mineral exploitation in the state of Chhattisgarh was reviewed. During the review, the achievements of the work done for the year 2022-23 were discussed and the geological work proposed for the year 2023-24 for the discovery of minerals found in the state was finalized.
In the meeting of State Geological Programming Board held today at Indravati Bhawan, the proposal presented by various government and private exploration institutions of the country for exploration of special minerals in Chhattisgarh state was also discussed extensively.
It is noteworthy that the mineral resources available in Chhattisgarh state are the basis of economic-social development of the state and the country. The state’s mineral resources contribute more than 11 percent in the state’s GSDP and generate mineral revenue of about Rs 13 thousand crores annually. According to the unique geological setup of Chhattisgarh state, apart from bulk minerals like iron ore, coal, dolomite, limestone, bauxite etc., the availability of precious and strategically important minerals like glauconite, graphite, nickel, chromium and PGE has also been certified by various agencies. Is. However, till now the exploitation of minerals in the state is limited to coal, iron ore, bauxite and limestone.
The above mentioned precious and strategically important minerals of the state are basic minerals for important sectors of the country like agriculture, IT, automobiles, space technology. Keeping the above fact in view, the department is involving government and private notified exploration agencies besides GSI, MECL in the exploration work to speed up the exploration and development of these minerals. Apart from doing the work on its own, the Mineral Department is also doing work through outsourcing.
It was informed in the meeting that apart from DGM, Navratna companies of the country like GSI, MECL, CMPDIL, AMD, NMDC, MOIL etc. are engaged in exploration work of various minerals in the state. SECL is also now taking interest in exploitation of minerals other than coal. As a result, about 13 projects have been proposed in the state for minerals of precious and strategic importance. With this effort, the department has transparently auctioned 06 blocks of Glauconite, Graphite, Nickel, Chromium and PGE, Gold to important mining companies of the country through e-auction. This is an effort of the State Mineral Department to ensure self-reliance in the availability of these minerals in the country. Chhattisgarh is the first state in the country to allot glauconite, nickel, chromium and PGE mineral blocks through e-auction.
After amendment in mineral rules in the year 2015, apart from coal, till now a total of 33 mineral blocks have been allotted by the department through e-auction. Exploitation of these blocks will generate an income of more than Rs 1 lakh crore for the state in the coming years. Representatives of various departments and undertakings of the Central Government and State Government were also present in the meeting.
