The state government is making the women of the state’s specially protected tribal community self-reliant by training them in art, culture and tradition as well as in local employment. In this series, women leading the specially protected Baiga tribe in Kabirdham district are being linked with local self-employment by training them on storage, packaging and marketing of forest produce.
On the initiative of Forest, Housing and Environment Minister Shri Mohammad Akbar, this training was provided with the aim of promoting livelihood among tribal Baiga women. With this, women will now be able to create new opportunities for livelihood and employment. At the same time, they will be able to improve the lives of their children and families through biodiversity based and forest resources based income generating activities.
A three-day training cum workshop was organized jointly with the Government of Chhattisgarh, Tribal Research and Training Institute, Raipur and Foundation for Ecology Security from 13 to 15 September 2023. In the workshop, the Baiga women leader of the specially protected tribe of the district, while presenting, shared the experiences of improving sustainable livelihood, health and nutrition through the climate change adaptation eco-agriculture method being done in the Baiga dominated area of development block Bodla. In the context of environmental farming, information was given about seed selection, seed treatment, row mixed farming and kitchen garden. In the training cum workshop, Baiga women shared their experiences of forest produce collection, storage, processing and marketing.
