Tribal women of Chhattisgarh were taught the tricks of storage, packaging and marketing of minor forest produce in a three-day training organized by Tribal Research and Training Institute (TRTI) and Foundation for Ecological Security (FEMA) of the state. A three-day training was organized at the Tribal Research and Training Institute from 13 to 15 September.

Director of Tribal Research and Training Institute, Mrs. Shammi Abidi, while discussing with the women of the group regarding the empowerment of tribal women during the training, said that it is important for women to be empowered. The workshop explained about increasing the quantity, quality of production, packaging and selling of products through the activities of various groups. Mrs. Abidi asked the women to learn from each other during the training and after understanding them, make others aware as well.

Ms. Manjeet Kaur, Director of the Foundation for Ecological Security, explained the supply chain in detail and how collectors can increase the price of the product. Shri Bharat Rajpurohit of Chhattisgarh State Minor Forest Produce Association told about the storage of forest produce, time of storage and precautions to be adopted in storage. He also gave information about the criteria set by Chhattisgarh State Minor Forest Produce Association.

The essential elements of marketing were explained in the training. Information was given about purchasing forest produce in the village through small forest produce cooperative society, self-help groups, criteria for selecting groups for purchase, etc. Through group activity, proper packaging of products and methods of selling them in the market were explained. It was told in the training that the way of talking is also very important for sales.

The second day of the training cum workshop was started by lighting the lamp on the picture of Chhattisgarh Mahtari by the women of the group present in the workshop. On the third day of the training-cum-workshop, health check-up of the trainees who came for the training was also done with the help of the Health Department.
