State level webinar on the occasion of International Literacy Day

Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel said in the state level webinar on the occasion of International Literacy Day that the day of International Literacy Day is the day to awaken the letters. It is a day to show the importance of alphabet knowledge. Akshar is the day to take a pledge to spread happiness and prosperity in the life of society with the light of knowledge. In fact, knowledge of letters is the first door from where infinite paths of knowledge open. The state level webinar was organized under the aegis of State Literacy Mission Authority and State Educational Research and Training Council Chhattisgarh. More than 15 thousand people participated in the webinar.
Chief Minister Mr. Baghel said that there is a direct relation between literacy and education and development with education. Today is the day to be proud of the current level of literacy in the country. It is a day of contemplation and vow to make about a quarter of the population literate. For this, there is a great need of individual interest and collective efforts. This goal can be achieved with widespread public participation. He said that now Navbharat literacy program will be launched in the state, this campaign will run for 5 years. In this program, along with providing basic literacy and numeracy to illiterate people, they should also be trained about the skills they will face in life. Chief Minister Mr. Baghel said that Chhattisgarh’s innovative programs are being continuously appreciated in the country. We have to work continuously in the direction of making one-fourth illiterate of the state literate. He celebrated International Literacy Day to the people of the state.
School Education Minister Ravindra Choubey said that literacy is the power with which we can face the biggest challenges. Education brings changes in our lives. Adult education and life-long education have been given important place in the National Education Policy. He said that now “education for all” will be used instead of adult education. The Government of India has approved the implementation of Nav Bharat Literacy Program in the state. Minister Shri Choubey has requested all the citizens of the state, all the bodies including Education Department’s Public Instruction, Samagra Shiksha, SCERT and State Literacy Mission Authority and teachers to become volunteer teachers in a voluntary spirit and bring the people deprived of education into the mainstream of education. Secretary of School Education Department, Dr. S. Bharathidasan said that literacy is very important for the development of any country. The more literate the citizens of the country, the more progress the country can make. International Literacy Day is celebrated every year to make people aware of this importance of literacy. Its purpose is to focus the attention of the whole world towards literacy individually, community and socially. The theme of International Literacy Day 2023 is “Promoting literacy in transition: building the foundation for sustainable and peaceful societies”. Building the foundation for sustainable and peaceful societies). Keeping that in mind, we have to work. The state has a glorious history of working the literacy program in mission mode and in an innovative way. He asked all the bodies of the department to make active contribution by devoting one to two hours daily to make the illiterate around them literate.
Special Secretary, School Education Department, SCERT and Director, State Literacy Mission Authority, Mr. Rajesh Singh Rana said that the decision to celebrate International Literacy Day was taken by UNESCO. He said that the scheme focused on education for all, Ullas-New India Literacy Program has been approved by the Government of India for implementation during the financial year 2022-27 in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Under the New India Literacy Program, a target has been given to make five lakh illiterates literate in the first year in the state. He appealed to achieve the target with the cooperation of the field staff and volunteers along with the District Literacy Mission.
Professor Usha Sharma, in-charge of National Literacy Center Cell of NCERT New Delhi was specially present in the webinar. He said that the government has launched a campaign for people in the age group of 15 years. Ullas-New India literacy program includes basic literacy and numeracy life skills such as digital literacy, financial literacy, electoral literacy, legal literacy, basic education, continuing education, health and hygiene as per the intention of the National Education Policy. He gave detailed information on these subjects.
Assistant Director of State Literacy Mission Authority Prashant Kumar Pandey, Assistant Director Dinesh Kumar Tank, SCERT’s SCL cell in-charge Preeti Singh, and DEOs, DPOs, DMCs, teachers, volunteer teachers and students of the districts were present in the webinar. The program was conducted by Prashant Kumar Pandey and vote of thanks was given by Preeti Singh.
