Governor Shri Vishwabhushan Harichandan participated in the yoga camp organized on the occasion of International Yoga Day at Raj Bhavan today. He also did Yogasana and Pranayama along with the officials and employees of Raj Bhavan. On this occasion, Chairman of Chhattisgarh Yoga Commission Mr. Gyanesh Sharma, Secretary to Governor Mr. Amrit Khalkho were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Shri Harichandan said that Yoga is an ancient art of India which has been in existence for thousands of years. But it gained public fame when, on the initiative of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the United Nations decided to celebrate June 21 as International Yoga Day in the year 2015. Since then, people all over the world have not only started knowing it, but the interest in yoga has also increased among people. Through Yoga Day, awareness has come about the benefits of yoga for physical and mental health. The Governor said that Yoga is a spiritual discipline and knowledge based on very subtle science which establishes harmony between mind and body. It is the art of living a healthy life.
He said that this year the theme of International Yoga Day is “Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbankam”. For the welfare of everyone as one world, one family, today we are sacrificing ourselves in this important yagya of yoga practice. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is also giving the message of Yoga to the whole world today by participating in the International Yoga Day program at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. People from more than 180 countries are participating in this program. It is a moment of great pride for our country.
He said that yoga should not be limited to asanas and pranayama, but to understand the method of going into the meditative state of yoga, education of meditation is very necessary. He said that yoga establishes harmony between our body and mind, thought and action, man and nature. It paves the way for health and wellness. Yoga is not just exercise but a sense of finding oneness with oneself as well as with the world and nature.
On this occasion, Chairman of the Yoga Commission Mr. Gyanesh Sharma said that practicing yoga should not be just a formality, but should be made an integral part of our life. Yoga Commission is regularly organizing free yoga camps at many places in Chhattisgarh.  
Legal Advisor Mr. Rajesh Srivastava, Deputy Secretary Mr. Deepak Agarwal along with officers and employees of Raj Bhavan participated in the yoga exercise with great enthusiasm. On this occasion, under the leadership of Yoga instructor Mr. Anand Sahu, Mr. Bhojraj Sahu, his team conducted yoga exercises. The Governor honored the yoga instructors by giving them citations.
