In Chhattisgarh, 6 thousand 395 drains located in forest areas have been revived under the state government’s ambitious ‘Narva Development Programme’. Under this, one crore 19 lakh 84 thousand ground water augmentation structures have been constructed in these drains so far with an amount of Rs 774 crore, due to which 22 lakh 92 thousand hectare area has been treated.
This information was given in the national seminar on soil-water conservation organized in the capital Raipur under the aegis of Forest and Climate Change Department. The national seminar organized till May 25 was inaugurated by Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel on May 23. In the seminar, according to the intention of Chief Minister Mr. Baghel, the work being done in the field of soil and water conservation in the forests of the state under CAMPA head under the Narva Development Program was also praised by the Central Special Secretary and Director General Mr. Chandra Prakash Goyal and it is being implemented in other states of the country. It is noteworthy that under the Narva Development Program in Chhattisgarh, a large number of ground water conservation works are being implemented rapidly in the drains located in Vananchal under the CAMPA head. Due to this, a lot of improvement has been seen in the ground water level of the forest areas and the residents including the forest dwellers are getting full benefits of drinking water, irrigation and drainage etc. facilities. Along with this, the works of forest conservation and promotion have also been encouraged. The Department of Forest and Climate Change has also received the Gold Award for the environment category of ‘Skoch Award’ for its excellent performance in the state.
During the last four years in Chhattisgarh, under the ambitious ‘Narva Vikas’ scheme being run by the state government, construction of various water structures is being done rapidly, treating about 23 lakh hectares of water catchment areas of 6 thousand 395 drains located in Vananchal. . Under this, construction of more than one crore 61 lakh structures related to ground water conservation is included. These structures include construction of Brush Wood Check Dam, Loose Boulder Check Dam, Gabion Structure, Earthen Check Dam, Contour Trench, Water Absorption Trench and Staggered Contour Trench. Apart from this, ground water conservation structures like gully plug, check dam, stop dam, percolation tank and pond, dabri and waterhole etc. are being constructed.
These include construction of more than 12 lakh structures to treat about 5 lakh hectares of land by selecting 863 drains in the year 2019-20. In which construction of ground water conservation structures is going on in total 32 forest divisions, 01 national park, 01 tiger reserve, 01 social forestry and 01 elephant reserve under 25 districts with an amount of Rs 160 crore 55 lakh.
Similarly, in the year 2020-21, by selecting 2 thousand 055 drains, construction of more than 46 lakh structures is in progress for the treatment of 6 lakh hectare land. In this, construction of ground water conservation structures is going on in 32 forest divisions, 2 national, 3 tiger reserves and 01 elephant reserve with an amount of more than Rs 421 crore. In the year 2021-22, by selecting one thousand 974 drains, for the treatment of 5 lakh 70 thousand hectares of land, construction of more than 73 lakh ground water conservation structures are included. In these, the construction of structures related to ground water augmentation in 32 Forest Divisions, 2 National Parks, 2 Tiger Reserves, 01 Social Forestry and 01 Elephant Reserve is in progress with an amount of more than Rs 407 crore.
Apart from this, in the year 2022-23, by selecting one thousand 503 drains, construction of more than 29 lakh structures is going on for the treatment of more than 6 lakh hectares of land. Of these, construction of ground water conservation structures is in progress in 32 forest divisions, 2 national parks, 3 tiger reserves and 01 elephant reserve with an amount of more than Rs 300 crore.
