Agriculture Production Commissioner Dr. Kamalpreet Singh said that in the cultivation of horticulture and commercial crops, the income is many times more than the traditional farming. The state government is also providing loans at zero percent interest to co-operative banks from this year along with attractive grants for their cultivation. Therefore, farmers should be encouraged for their cultivation by giving information about the schemes. Dr. Singh was addressing the review meeting of Kharif crop assessment for the year 2023 and Rabi crop program for the year 2022-23 by taking a meeting of the officers of Bilaspur and Surguja division in the meeting hall of the district office here today. Dr. Singh has expressed happiness over the success of the millet mission of the state government in the districts of Bilaspur and Surguja divisions. For the first time its crop is being harvested in about 50 thousand hectares of both the divisions. In the meeting held in two sessions, Divisional Commissioner Dr. Sanjay Alang, Special Secretary Mr. Fakir Ayaz Tamboli, Agriculture Director Ranu Sahu,
Singh said that there is sufficient availability of fertilizers this year. Unlike last year, all types of fertilizers are available in abundance in Patra. So far 50 per cent of the total demand has been stored. Farmers should be encouraged for advance lifting. Re-supply will be done when the space in the godowns becomes vacant. There are many benefits to the farmers from this. There is no expiry of manure and there is no additional economic loss due to getting loan at zero percent interest. He said that fertilizer should be sold through posh machines only. Considering this as the basis, the central government allocates fertilizers. Farmers should be encouraged to bring organic fertilizers like hemp and dhencha into practice. You have bought cow dung daily in Gothans. The compost made from this will be made available to the farmers. An action plan should be made for each district that how many farmers will be provided. He said that the conversion rate of making vermicompost from cow dung should not be less than 33 percent. Marwahi and Mungeli If there is less conversion in the district, instructions were given to remove it. He has asked some incomplete Gothans to be started by June 30 under any circumstances.
Kamalpreet instructed the farmers to popularize new varieties of paddy. They are relatively more beneficial. The new varieties ripen in a shorter period. Due to which farmers get enough time and moisture for Rabi cultivation. He told that in Marwahi and Surguja many aromatic varieties of paddy have got geo tag. Due to this their market value has increased a lot. Therefore, geo-tagged crops should be grown in more area in those areas so that the farmers can get maximum benefit. He suggested taking sugarcane farmers of Surajpur on a tour of Kabirdham district. Due to insufficient production of sugarcane in Surajpur, the supply is affected in the sugarcane factory. Shri Singh said that the income of farmers will increase only if they get easy loans for agriculture. For this every farmer should be given the benefit of KCC scheme. He said that almost half the farmers of the state could not get KCC facility. But expressed concern. He instructed the district administration to run the campaign in collaboration with the banks. Collectors have been instructed to review the short-term loans being given to farmers every day.
Dr. Singh appreciated the community garden scheme developed by the Department of Horticulture in Gothan. He said that if the vegetables produced here are linked to government schemes for sale, women will be benefited more. He said that there is a limit to income in traditional crops. Farmers will have to be taken towards commercial farming for more income. According to the agro-climatic zone of Chhattisgarh, cultivation of tea in Jashpur, litchi and jackfruit in Surguja, palm oil cultivation in Raigarh and Sarangarh is suitable. The state government also gives guarantee along with grant for their cultivation. He instructed to prepare cases to benefit maximum farmers.
