More than 65 lakh families are getting the benefit of subsidized electricity in the leading state of Chhattisgarh in electricity production. These families include 41.94 domestic electricity consumers, 16.82 lakh BPL electricity consumers, more than 6.26 lakh farmers benefited from the Half Electricity Bill scheme implemented on the initiative of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. Under the Half Electricity Bill Scheme, domestic consumers are being given a rebate of half the bill amount on the basis of the effective electricity rate on the consumption of electricity up to 400 units per month.
Under the Half Electricity Bill Scheme, a rebate of Rs 3236.59 crore has been given to domestic electricity consumers in four years. Similarly, under the Krishak Jeevan Jyoti Yojana, farmers are being given a rebate of 6000 units per year in the electricity bill of agricultural pumps up to three horse power and 7500 units per year in the electricity bill of agricultural pumps of 3 to 5 horse power. The electricity used by the farmers belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in agriculture has been kept free of cost. bpl Electricity consumers are being given 30 units of electricity free of cost every month. In the last four years, domestic electricity consumers and beneficiaries with BPL electricity connections have got a rebate of more than Rs 1973 crore. Also, under the Krishak Jeevan Jyoti Yojana, a subsidy of Rs 10,400 crore has been given to more than 6.26 lakh farmers on electricity in the last four years.
42 lakh families benefited
Under the Half Electricity Bill scheme operated in the state, domestic consumers are being given exemption of half the amount of the bill on the basis of effective electricity rate on consumption of up to 400 units of electricity per month. So far, a rebate of Rs 3236.59 crore has been given to the domestic electricity consumers under the Half Electricity Bill Scheme. In the last four years, the number of consumers of Half Electricity Bill Scheme has increased from 25.23 lakhs to 41.94 lakhs now. The condition of availing the benefit of the scheme is that there should not be any outstanding balance of the electricity bill of the consumer to avail the facility of half electricity bill. But if such consumers make full payment of the due amount of the previous bill, then from the date of payment they will be eligible to avail the benefits of the scheme.
