Along with promoting horticulture crops in Chhattisgarh, continuous efforts are being made to increase the income of the farmers. The Community Fencing Scheme is being implemented by the Horticulture Department with the objective of encouraging the farmers to take horticulture crops in the fields lying vacant after the Kharif season. Under this scheme, 50 percent subsidy is being given to the farmer groups for fencing the fields.
Generally, after cultivation of Kharif crop (paddy), animals are left free by farmers, due to lack of security, farmers are not able to cultivate vegetables etc. crops in Rabi season even if they want to. To overcome this problem, the state funded community fencing scheme is being run by the state government.
Officials of Horticulture Department told that two or more small-marginal farmers of all categories from per farmer group whose land is in one round will be eligible for this scheme. Under the scheme, assistance is given for fencing in minimum 0.5 hectare and maximum 2 hectare. Farmers are given 50 percent subsidy of one lakh 8 thousand 970 rupees per hectare fencing cost and the remaining 50 percent amount is borne by the farmer himself. Officials said that this scheme is being operated on the basis of ‘first come first serve’.
