Raipur : Special article : World Health Day : A day to reiterate the resolve to ensure access to health services to every person

This year’s World Health Day is being celebrated on the theme of ‘Health for All’.

The state government has started several schemes to provide accessible medical services.

World Health Day is celebrated all over the world on 7th April on the foundation day of the World Health Organisation, a United Nations organization. The World Health Organization was established on 7 April 1948. World Health Day was celebrated for the first time on 7th April in the year 1950. Since then, this day is celebrated every year to underline the importance of access to health services to every person in the world. This year, on the occasion of completion of 75 years of the establishment of the World Health Organization, World Health Day is being celebrated on the theme of ‘Health for All’. According to the World Health Organization, the definition of human health is to be physically, mentally and socially healthy.

In Chhattisgarh too, along with strengthening the basic infrastructure for providing free health facilities to maximum number of people and strengthening health services, human resource is being increased rapidly. Through various schemes, free or cheap medical facilities are being made available to the people near their homes. About 69 lakh families of the state have been brought under the ambit of Dr. Khubchand Baghel Health Assistance Scheme. Under this, about 60 lakh BPL families are being provided free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh and more than nine lakh APL families are being given free treatment facility up to Rs 50 thousand in government and contracted private hospitals. Basic health facilities are being provided to the people through 5300 health and wellness centers across the state. 

Under the Chief Minister’s Special Health Assistance Scheme, financial assistance of up to Rs 20 lakh is also being provided to the needy patients for the treatment of complex and serious diseases. Through the Mukhyamantri Haat-Bazar Clinic Yojana, free medicines are also being provided to the patients along with examination and treatment in villages and remote areas. Health facilities have been expanded in urban areas through Mukhyamantri Slum Swasthya Yojana, Dai-Didi clinics and Jan Aushadhi Kendras. Continuous initiatives are being taken to ensure that every human being has good health and every person can get good medical facilities in case of illness. 

The purpose of World Health Day is to spread health awareness globally and provide health services for all. The goal of the World Health Organization is to build a world where everyone has access to health services, no one has to take a loan for treatment, nor does it have to compromise on any other need of life. At present, along with Kovid-19, which is affecting the world badly, prevention of diseases like polio, TB, AIDS, leprosy, high blood pressure, blindness, heart disease, malaria, proper arrangements for their treatment and public awareness about them. Spreading awareness is also one of the major objectives of the World Health Organization and World Health Day. Programs are organized around the world every year under the leadership of the World Health Organization to raise awareness of health issues and problems.
