Former DGP D M AWASTHI will retire on March 31 after 37 years of IPS service

Raipur. 30 March 2023. A big wicket of Chhattisgarh Police is going to be minus. DM Awasthi, who is counted among the strong IPS officers, will retire tomorrow on March 31. DM Awasthi, an 86 batch IPS officer, is currently holding the command of EOW and ACB Chief.
DM Awasthi, a resident of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, stayed in the engineering service in Gujarat for three years. At the age of 23, he was selected in the IPS in 1986. After completion of training from Police Academy Hyderabad, his probation started from Satna. His first district as SP was Chhindwara. Then Raigad. From Raigarh he went to Bhopal as AIG Intelligence. He remained on this post for three years. After Intelligence, he was made SP Ujjain. Before becoming Chhattisgarh, he did only one posting as Raigarh SP. But after the division of the state, he got the Chhattisgarh cadre, and then remained with Chhattisgarh. In Chhattisgarh, he held the post of SSP of Raipur, Raipur IG. He was the Intelligence Chief for four years. After withdrawing from Intelligence in the third innings of the Raman government, he took charge of the Chhattisgarh Police Housing Corporation. In December 2018, when the Bhupesh Baghel government of Congress removed AN Upadhyay and made DM Awasthi the DGP. He remained in this post for about three years. Then he was made the director of police training. Three months back he was made director of EOW and ACB.
seven years in intelligence
DM Awasthi will be among the few IPS officers in the country who have been in the intelligence department for seven years in two states. He is counted as a forceful and domineering officer who speaks his mind. Along with Raipur IG, he also had the charge of Intelligence Chief. So he got a chance to handle even a big district like Ujjain. Chhindwara of Kamal Nath is also considered a big district of Madhya Pradesh. From 1086 to 2023 i.e. he served IPS for 37 years. Tomorrow 31st March will be the last day of IPS service.
