Deworming medicine will be given to 88.59 lakh children of one to 19 years of age in the state

In Raigarh and Sarangarh-Bilaigarh districts, along with Albendazole, medicine for filariasis will also be given.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Shri T.S. Singhdev inaugurated the National Deworming Day by administering Albendazole medicine to the children at his residence office in Raipur today. Taking the children in his lap, he himself administered anthelmintic medicine. Under the National Deworming Day, Albendazole medicine will be given to 88 lakh 59 thousand children and adolescents in the age group of one year to 19 years in 30 districts of the state. The children who were left out of taking medicine today will be given medicine during the mop-up round on February 15. Chief Medical and Health Officers of all the districts were also present online in the launch programme.

Inaugurating the National Deworming Day, Health Minister Mr. Singhdev said that more people than the total population of India are affected by stomach worms in the whole world. It stunts the physical and mental development of children. Worms also pose a risk of malnutrition and anemia. To protect children and adolescents from the side effects of worms, deworming medicine is given twice every year by organizing National Deworming Day. He appealed to all the family members that they must feed anthelmintic medicine to their children. He urged everyone to ensure their participation in this campaign.

Mr. Singhdev said that 50 thousand 255 teachers, 47 thousand 094 Anganwadi workers and 63 thousand 435 Mitanins have been trained across the state to ensure feeding of medicine to all children and adolescents on National Deworming Day. Today, deworming medicine is being administered in Anganwadis, government schools, health centers, aided private schools and technical education institutions. He said that a major part of the children’s food is eaten by worms. Due to this, children become malnourished and weak and become victims of anemia. To keep the children healthy and for their physical-mental development, it is necessary to eliminate the worms in the stomach.

Director of National Health Mission Mr. Bhoskar Vilas Sandipan told in the inauguration program of National Deworming Day that during this campaign a target has been set to feed Albendazole medicine to 88 lakh 59 thousand children and adolescents in the state. In Raigarh and Sarangarh-Bilaigarh districts, along with anthelmintic medicine, medicines are also being given to prevent filariasis under the National Filaria Eradication Program. During the LFMDA (Lymphatic Filariasis Mass Drug Administration) campaign in Raipur, Gariaband and Balodabazar-Bhatapara districts, deworming medicine has been administered in the month of December.

Deputy Director of Child Health Program Dr. V.R. Bhagat told in the program that Albendazole 400 mg medicine is being consumed in schools and anganwadis to get rid of worms. For deworming, children of one year to two years of age should be given half tablet of anthelmintic drug Albendazole, two to three years of age should be crushed one tablet, three to five years of age should chew one tablet and children of six to 19 years of age and Adolescents should be given a chewable tablet with water. He told that the consumption of anthelmintic medicine is completely safe for children and adolescents. This will improve children’s health and nutrition levels, prevention of anemia, intellectual development and school attendance.

Health Minister Mr. Singhdev inaugurated sonography machine online at Nawapara UPHC

Health Minister Shri T.S. Singhdev inaugurated the state-of-the-art sonography machine online at Nawapara Urban Primary Health Center in Ambikapur today during the inauguration program of National Deworming Day. Ambikapur’s Mayor Dr. Ajay Tirkey and District Panchayat Chairman Mr. Rakesh Gupta, along with many public representatives and health department officials virtually participated in the inauguration program.
