On the invitation of Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel, the members of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly enjoyed dishes made from millets on Wednesday.
On this occasion, Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel said that he enjoyed all the dishes. He said that I liked ragi pudding very much. The year 2023 has been declared as Millet year. Last year we have purchased 52 thousand quintals of Kodo, Kutki, Ragi. Chhattisgarh is the only state which is procuring Kodo Kutki Ragi at support price. This has benefited the farmers as well as increased the production. Millets should be used by everyone as much as possible because it contains many nutritious elements.
Recently Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has praised Millets Mission of Chhattisgarh and how he has urged to open millets in Raipur, considering his request we are opening Millets Cafe in Mantralaya as well as Millets Cafe in Divisional Seamart Centers Will start
It is notable that a luncheon was organized for all the members of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly with the aim of popularizing and showcasing dishes made from millet. In the same sequence, food of various dishes of Kodo, Kutki and Ragi was prepared for lunch on Wednesday, in which Chhattisgarhi dishes prepared from millet were also included.

All kinds of dishes made of millets were available for the MLAs in the Millets lunch. The special thing is that all the dishes had Chhattisgarhi tadka. Ragi soup in the starter, ragi pakodas, kodo bhajiya, bajra and jaggery pudding, kutki ke Chhattisgarhi fare, ragi, kutki cheela, Chhattisgarhi bajra curry in the main course, red bhaji, Jimmy Kanda, kodo veg Pulao, jowar, bajra, ragi roti and paratha were relished by all. Along with this, enjoyed Ragi, Kutki’s Cupcake, Ragi Ka Halwa, and Kodo’s Dry Fruits Kheer in the desert.
Appreciated by the Prime Minister- Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has also appreciated Millets Mission in Chhattisgarh recently. During his stay in Delhi, Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel informed Prime Minister Mr. Modi about the Millets Mission being run in the state. During the meeting, Shri Modi also advised to open Millets Cafe in Raipur. It is notable that the Millet Mission has been started by the state government from 01 December 2021, whose main objective is to promote the cultivation of millets (Kodo, Kutki, Ragi, Jowar etc.), to promote the processing of millets and to include millets in the daily diet. The biggest processing unit in Kanker – For this, procurement is being done by fixing the minimum purchase price of Kodo, Kutki and Ragi in the state through Chhattisgarh State Minor Forest Produce Federation. In the year 2021-22 the total amount is Rs. 52,728 quintals of Kodo, Kutki and Ragi worth Rs 16.03 crore were procured. To promote the processing of millet in the state, processing centers have been set up at the local level and a 5,000 tonne capacity millet processing center has been set up in the private sector by Avani Ayurveda in Kanker district. Which is Asia’s largest millets processing unit.
Millets included in the mid-day meal to remove malnutrition- Millets have also been included in the mid-day meal in Chhattisgarh so that malnutrition can be completely eradicated. Children in schools are being given dishes made of millets in the mid-day meal, which include cookies made of millets, laddoos and soya chikki.
Chhattisgarh is the first state in the country to purchase millets at the support price – It is notable that Chhattisgarh is the first state in the country to purchase millets at the support price. Under this mission operated in 14 districts of the state, along with fixing the support price of Kodo-Kutki-Ragi, arrangements were also made for collection through women self-help groups under the Chhattisgarh Small Forest Produce Cooperative Union. Input subsidy is also being given to the farmers by including these crops under the ambit of Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana. Farmers are also being given advice from experts to increase productivity. For this, an MoU has been signed between the Indian Institute of Millet Research, Hyderabad (IIMR) and 14 district collectors. IMR has also taken the responsibility of providing good quality seeds of Kodo, Kutki, Ragi as well as helping in setting up of seed bank. Along with this, he is also giving training to the farmers.
