The main reason for the increase in VCA charges, which will be applicable from next month, is an increase of Rs 459 crore in the cost of electricity purchased by Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company from NTPC during August and September 2022 as compared to the rate approved by the Electricity Regulatory Commission . On the contrary, there has been a decrease of Rs 26 crore in the bill of electricity purchased from the Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company as compared to the approved rate. But due to higher increase in NTPC’s bill, there has been a gross increase of Rs 549 crore in power purchase amount, due to which Variable Cost Adjustment (VCA) charge had to be increased by 49 paise. Earlier this rate was 61 paise per unit, which has now increased to Rs 1.10 per unit.

VCA It is calculated every two months. During the month of August and September 2022 V.C.A. Due to this, the distribution company has to pay Rs 549 crore more on the power purchased than the rate approved by the Electricity Regulatory Commission. NTPC has a major share in this. 459 crores, while the bill of Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company has decreased by about Rs. 26.51 crores as compared to the rate approved by the commission.
