Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel has paid tribute to social reformer, thinker, writer and philosopher Mahatma Jyotiba Phule on the occasion of Samta Divas, which is the death anniversary of 28 November. Mr. Baghel has said that Mahatma Phule wanted to free the society from superstitions and bad practices. He was strongly opposed to the caste system prevailing in the Indian society and the discrimination based on it. He did many things for the upliftment of women and Dalits. Mahatma Phule established the Satyashodhak Samaj to end discrimination against Dalits and give them a place in the society.
Mr. Baghel said that Mahatma Phule emphasized on education of all classes to free the society from evil practices. He also promoted women’s education and provided education to his wife, Mrs. Savitribai Phule, who became India’s first teacher. The Chief Minister said that Mahatma Jyotiba Phule’s service spirit and values will always inspire us to serve the downtrodden and establish equality in the society.
