Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel wrote a letter to the Union Food and Consumer Welfare Minister Mr. Ram Vilas Paswan, requesting permission to increase the amount of rice procurement from Chhattisgarh to Food Corporation of India from 24 lakh metric ton to 31.11 lakh metric ton in Kharif marketing year 2019-20. Mr. Baghel has written in the letter that the state government is constantly making concerted and sensitive efforts with vigilance to prevent and prevent infection of the epidemic nationwide. In order to stop the spread of Kovid-19 virus, the ‘lockdown’ was also implemented in the state of Chhattisgarh, which continues unabated. During this lockdown, the state government is ensuring full compliance with the guidelines received from the central government. The Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana of the Central Government is also being effectively implemented, which has provided relief to the people.
Drawing the attention of the Union Minister Shri Paswan in this present scenario, the Chief Minister has written that in Chhattisgarh, a total of 83.67 lakh tonnes of paddy has been procured from Kharif marketing year KMS 2019-20 on support price from 18.34 lakh farmers. The work of paddy procurement and custom milling of rice in the state is done as per the MoU between the State Government and the Government of India, Food and Public Distribution Department. In the provisions of the MoU of the State Government and the Government of India Department of Food and Public Distribution, all surplus rice is provided by the Food Corporation of India.
Mr. Baghel has written a letter dated 19 December 2019 from the Department of Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, in this letter, in the Kharif Marketing Year (KMS 2019-20), the Food Corporation of India procured 24.00 lakh tonnes of rice under the Central Pool. Permission granted. Of the 56.51 lakh metric tonnes of rice produced in the Kharif marketing year KMS 2019-20 in the state, out of the total purchase of 83.67 lakh tonnes of paddy, 25.40 lakh metric tonnes of rice will be procured by the state for the need of PDS (Central Pool 15.48 lakh metric tonnes, The state pool will be 9.92 lakh metric tons) and the remaining 31.11 lakh metric tons of rice surplus. Out of this, with the permission of the Government of India to procure 24 lakh metric tons of rice in the Food Corporation of India, only 73.20 lakh metric tons of paddy will be disposed of, and about 10.47 lakh metric tons of paddy (proportional rice 7.11 lakh metric tons) ) Will remain in the unincorporated state.
Mr. Baghel has written in the letter that the lockdown in circumstances arising due to corona virus infection would reflect far-reaching consequences on the country as well as the state’s economy. In such a situation, if the surplus rice available in the state is not disposed of properly, then the loss to the state would be about 1500 crore rupees, which would adversely affect the state’s economic growth momentum under these adverse circumstances. In these circumstances, Mr. Baghel has requested the Union Minister Mr. Paswan to increase the quantity of rice procurement from Chhattisgarh to Food Corporation of India from 24 lakh tonnes to 31.11 lakh tonnes in the Kharif Marketing Year 2019-20.
