Since the formation of Chhattisgarh, the residents of the Sarangarh area and the adjoining area included in the Raigad district had been demanding for years that Sarangarh should be separated from Raigad to form a new district. On September 3, Shri Bhupesh Baghel will fulfill the dream of the residents of Sarangarh-Bilaigarh district by launching it. It is worth mentioning that Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel had announced the formation of new Sarangarh-Bilaigarh district on 15 August 2021 on the occasion of Independence Day.
With the creation of a new district of Sarangarh-Bilaigarh, the reach of the administration and administration will be strengthened, due to which the development works in these areas will get speedy. District headquarter Sarangarh is located on Raigarh to Raipur main road Sarangarh National State Road No. 200. The airstrip has been located here since the time of the princely state. Before the formation of district headquarter, Sarangarh Chhattisgarh is the tehsil headquarter and sub-divisional officer as revenue headquarter.
It may be noted that the new district Sarangarh-Bilaigarh has been formed comprising sub-division Sarangarh, Tehsil Sarangarh and Barmakela of district Raigarh and sub-division-Bilaigarh and Tehsil Bilaigarh of district Balodabazar-Bhatapara, which comes under Bilaspur division. The newly formed district is bounded by Raigad district in the north, Mahasamund district in the south, Bargarh district of Orissa in the east and Baloda Bazar in the west and Janjgir-Champa district in the north-west. In which three tehsils Sarangarh, Barmkela and Bilaigarh and sub-tehsils Kosir and Bhatgaon will be included. Three Janpad Panchayats, Sarangarh, Barmkela and Bilaigarh are being included in the newly formed district.
According to the 2011 census, the total population here is 6 lakh 17 thousand 252. There are 759 villages, 349 gram panchayats, 5 urban bodies, 601 kotwars and 720 Patels. Under which 20 Revenue Inspector Divisions are included, which include Sarangarh, Hardi, Salar, Kosir, Chhind, Godam, Ulkhar, Barmkela, Gobarsingha, Devgaon, Dongripali, Saria, Bilaigarh, Pawani, Govindavan, Jamgahan, Bhatgaon, Girsa, Bilaspur and Sarsiwa. . Whose total revenue area is 01 lakh 65 thousand 14 and 2518 is the number of revenue cases. At present, 1406 schools, 7 colleges, 33 banks, 3 projects, 141 health centers, 10 police stations and 2 outposts are established in the new district of Sarangarh-Bilaigarh.
The newly formed district is home to a large number of people belonging to the Ramnami community. He dedicates his whole life in the name of Ram. Their specialty is that they get the name of Ram tattooed all over their body. Mahanadi is the main river of Sarangarh-Bilaigarh district. On the other hand, the Gomarda Sanctuary, located in the Sarangarh-tehsil of the district, easily attracts the tourists towards itself.
Sarangarh is famous for Dussehra festival
In the princely state of Sarangarh, during the tenure of the then Raja Jawahir Singh, the Dussehra-festival of Sarangarh is very famous like Bastar-Dussehra since more than a century ago. In which apart from the burning of Ravana, bravery was demonstrated in the open ground in a public place among the common citizens in the mud stronghold. A large number of youths participated in this gallantry show with great enthusiasm. The citadel was made very smooth with a paste of mud and cow dung. The upper part of the citadel was furnished by giving it the form of a bastion of a palace. Which was originally made of clay. The participant buried the thorn-shaped iron paw in that ridged mound and climbed it slipping due to the wet soil. Some people used to climb above the citadel, who used to hit the climber on top of the fort with a stick, but the young man who reached the top first broke the citadel made of clay. He was rewarded by Raja Sahib with cash and shield. it is said that In the princely state of Sarangarh, such victorious bravehearts were recruited into the army. Only after this the work of burning Ravana was completed. This tradition is still prevalent today.
