Consistently meaningful initiatives are being taken by the Government of Chhattisgarh to reduce the cost of agriculture, production of non-toxic food grains and to promote organic farming in the state. In view of the availability of organic manure as an alternative to chemical fertilizers in Chhattisgarh and the effective results of its use, now an effective initiative to make cow urine pest control products available to farmers at a cheap rate with the aim of reducing the use of chemical pesticides in agriculture. has been started. On the special initiative of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, the purchase of cow urine in Gauthans will start from the day of Hareli festival on 28th July in the state and the process of preparation of pest control products will start. In the first phase, Gauthan committees will purchase cow urine at the rate of Rs 4 a liter in the identified Gauthans of all the districts of the state, so that the trained women of women self-help groups, cow urine pest controllers, Jeevamrut (growth promoter). Gaumutra pesticide products prepared by women self-help groups will be made available to Jeevamrut farmers at less than one-third the price of chemical insecticides available in the market.
Cow urine insecticide is a better and cheaper alternative to chemical pesticides available in the market. Its disease resistance is many times higher than chemical insecticides. Its spraying in the fields helps in control of all types of pests. Its use is more beneficial against more harmful insects like leaf eaters, fruit borers and stem borers. Cow urine is good for pesticide, maintaining the quality and taste of food, fertility of agriculture as well as for agriculture environment and health.
Method to make cow urine insecticide –Cow urine pest control product can be made easily. To make it, in 10 liters of cow urine, 2-3 kg of neem leaves, along with 2-2 kg leaves of cilantro, papaya, guava and karanj, have to be boiled. When its volume reaches up to 5 liters, then it is filtered and cooled and packed in a bottle. In this way 5 liters of cow urine insecticide is prepared.
Mode of use –Mixing two to 2.5 liters of cow urine insecticide in 100 liters of water and spraying the standing crop in the morning and evening at an interval of 10 to 15 days prevents the crops from diseases and stem borer pests. The use of cow urine insecticide is more effective if the pest occurs before the outbreak. This disease controller is biodegradable, which is completely safe for the environment. Its use does not create immunity in insects, as it controls pests with multiple actions. Friendly insects are not harmed by cow urine insecticide.
Cost per liter of cow urine pesticide-According to agricultural scientists, the cost of making cow urine insecticide costs Rs 39 per liter, which includes Rs 15 for packaging one liter of it. If packaging is done in a can, its cost is further reduced. It is proposed to provide cow urine insecticide to the farmers in the state at the rate of Rs 50 per liter, which is less than one third of the price of chemical pesticides available in the market.
Jeevamrit is made from cow dung and cow urine –Jeevamrit i.e. growth promoter is also prepared from cow urine. It is a biostimulant, which increases the movement of micro-organisms in soil and phylospheric micro-organisms when sprayed on foliage. It acts as a primer for microbial activity and also increases the population of native earthworms. To make Jeevamrit, 10 kg of cow dung, 10 liters of cow urine, one kg of jaggery, one kg of gram flour, 250 grams of soil under a banyan or peepal tree and 200 liters of water are needed.
Method of making Jeevamrut –After filling 200 liters of water in a plastic or cement tank, add 10 kg cow dung, cow urine, one kg jaggery, one kg gram flour, 250 grams of soil under Banyan or Peepal are mixed. Keep it in the shade for 48 hours and cover it with a sack, due to which the Jeevamrit is prepared. Azospirillum, Phosphate Solubilizing Microbes, Pseudomonas, Trichoderma, Yeast and Molds Microorganisms are available in abundance in Jeevamrut. This Jeevamrut can be used only for 7 days. By using Jeevamrut, the crops get proper nutrition and the grains and fruits are healthy.
Precautions and cost per liter –Cow urine used for making Jeevamrut should not be kept in a metal vessel. Only fresh cow dung or cow dung kept in the shade for seven days should be used for this. Jeevamrut should be done with the first irrigation of the crop 21 days after sowing the seeds. The estimated cost of preparing one liter of Jeevamrut comes to Rs.21. It can be sold in a bottle. In Chhattisgarh, the price of Jeevamrit, which is prepared in Gauthans, is proposed at Rs 40 per liter.
