The farmers of Kondagaon, who take paddy crop, have forayed into the world of aromatic crops, welcoming the initiative of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel to adopt innovation. He has planted aromatic crops on the land obtained from the forest rights letter. Its processing unit has also been set up in Gauthan. While farmers get a profit of Rs 25,000 in paddy, up to Rs 75,000 is expected in aromatic crops. The market has been marked for this. The government has set up a processing unit in Gothan. Aromatic crops are being taken by individual farmers, forest rights clusters of the district. This has created huge opportunities for economic potential in the entire region. It is noteworthy that Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel had launched it on 20 June 2021. The production of aromatic crops is also important in this direction as the aromatic oil helps in repelling mosquitoes.
It is noteworthy that with the aim of increasing the income of the marginal and small farmers of the district as per the wishes of the Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, the district administration has started ‘Aromatic Kondanar’ campaign for the cultivation of aromatic crops in the district. Field distillation unit has been established in Rajagaon itself to extract the aromatic oils from these aromatic crops. Due to which farmers will get 10 times more profit than traditional crops. This aromatic oil is used in making perfumes, soap making, handwash, sanitizer and mosquito repellent chemicals.
The market was found in the production center itself
Mr. Harishchandra Koram, a member of Indira Van Mitan Group, Managing Committee of Aromatic Kondanar, said that after the district administration has an MoU with Sunflag Agrotech, it will be easy to reach Indonesia, Europe and US markets through the institution of oil produced here. He said that now the producers will not have to search the market to sell the oil, the aroma of Aromatic Kondanar will itself attract the buyers here.
Helped in malaria-free Bastar campaign
Aromatic oil obtained from the aromatic plant is also used in mosquito repellent chemical. This scheme will be helpful in the malaria-free Bastar campaign of the state government. Due to which the mortality rate due to malaria will also come down in the region.
Farmers are getting rich due to cultivation of aromatic crops leaving traditional agriculture
Sampat Singh Netam, a farmer who came from village Mirdongar, told that he has received forest rights letter of about 2.5 acres of land from the state government. In which for the last many years, he has been cultivating paddy, from which he used to get economic income at the rate of 25 thousand per acre annually. He got information about the cultivation of aromatic plants by the district administration and this year he is producing lemon grass in 1 acre and khus (vetivare) in about one and a half acres. The market price of aromatic oil is Rs 1500 per liter. At this rate, they will get a profit of 70 to 80 thousand rupees annually in the acre.
