Raipur : Chancellor Ms. Uike appointed Dr. Chandel as Vice Chancellor of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University

Raipur 24 February 2022. Governor and Chancellor Ms. Anusuiya Uikey has appointed Dr. Girish Chandel, Head of the Department, Department of Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Raipur as the Vice Chancellor of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University. This appointment has been made in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 14 of the Indira Gandhi Agricultural University Act, 1987 (No. 20 of 1987). An order in this regard was issued today.
It is worth mentioning that Dr. Girish Chandel is an eminent plant breeder and biotechnology scientist of the country. Born in a farmer family and a native of village-Kukra Chunda, Simga, Hathband, Chhattisgarh, Dr. Chandel has 30 years of experience in agricultural education, research and extension management, with 07 years of experience especially in the cutting edge of drought and nutrition research. The state of art has been on infrastructure creation and nutrition management. Dr. Chandel received the prestigious Borlaug Fellowship of America. He also received a doctoral fellowship from the International Rice Research Institute of the Philippines.  
Dr. Chandel has participated in many international and national seminars and has published more than 50 international research papers. He has handled more than 15 national and international projects costing around ₹ 20 crores.
Dr. Chandel also played an important role in the development of biofortified varieties of paddy. Dr. Chandel has vast experience of R&D work at international level. He holds a Ph.D. at the International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology. Fellow and has worked as a visiting scientist at the International Rice Research Institute.
