Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel has said that our forefathers have also contributed significantly in the Goa liberation struggle. The way the people of Chhattisgarh contributed in the freedom struggle of the country, in the same way the warriors of Chhattisgarh made a significant contribution in the liberation struggle of Goa. Shri Baghel paid tribute to the satyagrahis of Chhattisgarh who participated in the Goa Liberation Struggle, remembering the sacrifices and sacrifices they made in the program organized under the Amrit Mahotsav being celebrated across the country as part of the 75th anniversary of independence, at his residence office here today. . He also honored the families of Satyagrahis of Chhattisgarh in this function organized by the Department of Culture.

Mr. Baghel further said that Veer Shivaji and Sambhaji made efforts to drive the Portuguese out of Goa. The ancestors of Chhattisgarh also gave their participation with the people of the country for the liberation of Goa. A team of about 150 Satyagrahis went to Goa. Thakur Harinarayan Singh, Shri Nand Kumar Pathak, Shri Moses Moolchand, Shri Sharad Kumar Raizada, Shri Balaram Joshi, Shri Hari Prasad Sharma, Shri Gandhi Ram Sahu were the frontline leaders in this team. Later on the number of Satyagrahis reached 530. The Satyagrahis in Goa suffered many types of atrocities and tortures of the Portuguese, but also gave arrests. Finally the 450 years of Portuguese rule came to an end.

The Chief Minister assured the Satyagrahis of Chhattisgarh, who participated in the Goa Liberation Struggle, to take necessary initiative by examining the demand for grant of Samman Nidhi and allotment of land to such Satyagrahis who are not getting Central Samman Nidhi.

Culture Minister Shri Amarjeet Bhagat said on this occasion that it is a matter of pride for all of us that the Satyagrahis of Chhattisgarh participated in the Goa Liberation Struggle. It is inspiring for us to go so far from Chhattisgarh and fight for the independence of Goa. Remembering the contribution of Satyagrahis, he bowed down. Culture Secretary Shri Anbalagan P. said that the Satyagrahis of Chhattisgarh played an important role in the integration of different parts of the country. The Satyagrahis here participated in the Goa Liberation War under the leadership of Abdul Rehman Farooqui. Reaching Goa, the satyagrahis fought the Portuguese police fiercely. His struggle is inspiring. This struggle, which started from 1955, lasted for about 6 years. Finally, on 19 December 1961, Goa became a part of India.

The Chief Minister said that three years of Chhattisgarh government are being completed today. He is getting the privilege of honoring the families of the Satyagrahis of the Goa Liberation War on such an occasion. He attended the program, Shri Ashish Singh Thakur, son of late Thakur Harinarayan Singh, Satyagrahi of Goa Liberation War and Upmanyu Singh, son of Late Shri Nand Kumar Pathak, Shri Sanjay Pathak and daughter-in-law, Smt. Sandhya Pathak, son of Late Shri Moses Moolchand, Shri Mukesh Moses and daughter-in-law. Mrs. Eliza Shailesh Moses, son of late Mr. Sharad Kumar Raizada, Mr. Shivendra Raizada and daughter-in-law Mrs. Nisha Raizada, son of late Mr. Balaram Joshi, Mr. Ghanshyam Joshi and daughter-in-law Mrs Harsh Joshi and son of late Mr. Gandhi Ram Sahu, Mr. Subhash Chand Sahu and grandson Mr. Alha Ram Sahu was honored by presenting shawl, shriphal and memento.
