Raipur, 17 September 2021. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel paid floral tributes to the freedom fighter late Pandit Vamanrao Lakhe on his birth anniversary at his residence office here today. On this occasion, the Chief Minister remembered his contribution towards the freedom struggle of the country and strengthening the cooperative movement in Chhattisgarh.
It is noteworthy that Late Shri Lakhe ji is known as the father of cooperatives in Chhattisgarh. His efforts led to the establishment of the first co-operative bank in Raipur. Shri Lakhe also played an important role in public awareness during the freedom struggle in Chhattisgarh and led many movements. As the editor of Chhattisgarh’s first monthly magazine Chhattisgarh Mitra, he laid the foundation of journalism here. This magazine played a major role in the development of national consciousness. On this occasion urban Administration Minister Dr. Shivkumar Dahria, Food Minister Mr. Amarjit Bhagat, Chhattisgarh State Mineral Development Corporation Chairman Mr. Girish Devangan were also present.
