Raipur, 09 September 2021. Millet Mission will be started in Chhattisgarh. An MoU will be signed between the Indian Institute of Millet Research, Hyderabad and the collectors of the districts under the state’s Millet Mission in the program organized at the Chief Minister’s residence office tomorrow at 12 noon in the presence of Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel. Director of Indian Institute of Millet Research Dr. Vilas A. Tonapee and Chief Scientist Dr. Dayakar Rao will join the program online.
In view of the increasing demand of millets like Kodo-Kutki, Ragi in the country and abroad, the Millet Mission will not only increase the income of the farmers of Vananchal and tribal areas, but will also give a new identity to Chhattisgarh. At the same time, farmers, women’s groups and youth will also get employment through processing and value addition of millets. Collectors of Kanker, Kondagaon, Bastar, Dantewada, Bijapur, Sukma, Narayanpur, Rajnandgaon, Kawardha, Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi, Balrampur, Koriya and Jashpur districts will participate virtually in the program. technical know-how between the collectors of these districts and the Indian Institute of Millet Research Hyderabad for increasing the productivity of Kodo, Kutki and Ragi, MoU will be done regarding availability of high quality seeds and establishment of seed bank. Apart from this, arrangements will be made for training of farmers through Krishi Vigyan Kendra at the field level of scientific techniques developed at the national level by IIMR Hyderabad.
