Raipur, 04 September 2021. The farmers of the state are getting a lot of enthusiasm after the Chhattisgarh government accorded the status of agriculture to fisheries. Fishing is being done in 7 thousand 397 ponds and 86 reservoirs of Janjgir-Champa district, which has become a source of income for thousands of people. 6 thousand 500 fish farmers of the district are making their living by joining this business. The fish farmers of the district are being given the benefits of various government schemes. Due to this they are becoming financially prosperous. On one hand people are getting employment due to the construction of water storage structures, on the other hand farmers are also getting irrigation facility for their crops.
Along with agriculture in Janjgir-Champa district, a large number of fish farming is being done in ponds and reservoirs. There are 7 thousand 682 rural ponds in the district whose water area is 10 thousand 442 hectares, out of which fish farming is being done in 7 thousand 397 rural ponds (water area 10 thousand 306 hectares). Fishing work is also being done in irrigation reservoir 86 (water area 1 thousand 659 hectares) in the district.
For fish seed production and storage, 03 hatcheries and 06 government fish seed farms are established in the district. Fish seed is provided to the fish farmers from the government fish seed farms at subsidized government rates. In the financial year 2021-22, the district had achieved the target of 1550 lakh spawn fish seed. Against which 1556 lakh spawn fish seed has been produced. The target of 300 lakh standard fry (Matsya Angulika) was achieved, against which 80 thousand standard fry (Matsya Angulika) have been produced.
