Raipur: Preparations intensified to deal with third wave, exercise to give permanent strength to medical infrastructure

Raipur, 03 July 2021.    Preparations are being made by the Chhattisgarh government on a war footing regarding the possible third wave of Corona. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has given instructions to the Health Department to make proper arrangements for oxygen, ventilators, medicines, beds, doctors and medical personnel in the state in time. They are deciding the strategy to deal with possible situations by taking frequent meetings of the officers of the department. He has said that from villages to cities and capital Raipur, medical infrastructure should be strengthened in such a way that it proves to be effective in facing the third-wave, as well as a stable and strong infrastructure is available with the state even after Corona.

With the first wave of Corona last year, far-sighted efforts were started to strengthen the medical infrastructure in the state, resulting in augmentation of health facilities in a phased manner. At present, the number of ventilators in the state increased from 280 to 723, ICU beds increased from 406 to 729, number of oxygen concentrators increased from 1061 to 5142, jumbo oxygen cylinders from 2704 to 9382, small oxygen cylinders from 2499 to 5362, PSA oxygen plants from 6 to 23. , Multi Paramonitor has increased from 624 to 1142. The strategy that the state government has decided to deal with corona, includes 05 oxygen concentrators in each primary health center, 15 oxygen beds in each community health center, 15 jumbo cylinders and 4 ICU beds, all oxygen beds, ventilators in each district hospital. At least 30 ICU beds with ventilators, at least 02 infant ventilators, PSA plants for oxygen, liquid oxygen tanks and oxygen pipelines and manifolds, 100 ICU beds with ventilators in each medical college hospital, 20 infant ventilators, and district hospitals viz. All the resources will be there.

For adequate availability of oxygen, 100 PSA oxygen plants have been sanctioned in the state, out of which 23 have been completed and 77 are under construction. PSA plants have been approved in all medical colleges and district hospitals of the state. Similarly, 22 liquid oxygen tanks have been approved. Instructions have been given to make additional arrangements for 10, 618 jumbo oxygen cylinders and 7960 small oxygen cylinders. Additional arrangement of pipeline is being made in 690 beds of all district hospitals of the state. Similarly, preparations are being made to arrange 717 ventilators, 123 infant ventilators. In 967 government and 435 private hospitals of the state, treatment facilities are being provided to the needy under Dr. Khubchand Baghel Health Assistance Scheme and Ayushman Bharat Yojana.

The process of reserving 25 acres of land for setting up a private hospital with world class facilities has started in the capital city of Raipur. Similarly, on the other front, rapid vaccination is being done based on the availability of the vaccine to protect against Kovid-19. Till 01 July 2021, 99 lakh 12 thousand 608 vaccines have been administered. In the state, about 82 lakh 79 thousand 252 people have been given the first vaccine and 16 lakh 33 thousand 356 people have been given both the vaccines. In the state 47 lakh 80 thousand 724 citizens above 45 years of age and 28 lakh 73 thousand 824 citizens in the age group of 18 to 44 years have been vaccinated against corona.

In Chhattisgarh, as on 02 July 2021, the positivity rate has come down to just 1.2 percent. The recovery rate is 98 percent. The daily test capacity of the state has increased from 30-35 thousand to more than 70 thousand tests. At present, 35 government, 6 private labs have the facility of True Not Testing. RTPCR test facility is available in 11 government and 5 private labs. Five new government RTPCR labs have been established in the state at Balodabazar, Durg, Dantewada, Janjgir-Champa and Jashpur. Testing capacity of Truenaut Lab has been increased by supplying additional machines in each district. Rapid antigen test has been arranged at all the primary health centers in the state. There is a facility of rapid antigen testing 24 hours a day, seven days a week, from May 13 in 14 municipal corporations of Chhattisgarh. So far, free medicine kits have been distributed to 22 lakh 42 thousand people with symptoms of corona in the state.

The number of Medical College Hospitals in the State has increased from 6 to 9, District Hospitals from 26 to 28 and Civil Hospitals from 19 to 20. In two and a half years, 15 50 bedded and 6 100 bedded MCH hospitals have been established. During this period 6 new Sub Health Centers and one Community Health Center have also been established. As a result of the efforts made in the direction of improving health facilities in the state in two and a half years, the number of medical staff including specialists, doctors, medical officers has increased from 18,458 to 20,405, in which the number of specialists, doctors has increased from 175 to 319. The number of Medical Officers has increased from 1359 to 1818 and the number of Staff Nurse has increased from 2580 to 4091. At present the recruitment of 300 Medical Officers, 92 Staff Nurses, 50 Medical Lab Technologists and 146 Rural Health Coordinators (Female) is under process.
