Raipur, 30 May 2021. World Tobacco Prohibition Day will be celebrated this year on the theme to Quit Tobacco. World Tobacco Prohibition Day is observed every year on 31 May. On this occasion, awareness will be brought in the minds of the people about the side effects and health risks caused by the consumption of tobacco. On the day of tobacco prohibition, an oath will be taken to never consume any kind of tobacco products in life and to motivate your family or acquaintances not to consume tobacco products and any drugs.
How dangerous is tobacco consumption. This can be gauged from the fact that there are 7000 types of chemicals in tobacco smoke. 250 types of chemicals cause cancer. 12.80 lakh people die every year due to the consumption of tobacco. Consumption of tobacco not only causes serious diseases like cancer, heart disease, stroke, lung related, chronic pulmonary disease but also the risk of serious infection and death is also high due to the pandemic like Kovid-19 currently spreading across the world. .

Besides, tobacco addiction relief centers have also been set up in 6 dentistry colleges in the state. Between April 2020 and March 2021, 141 focal groups have been decommissioned. Along with this, a school health program has also been undertaken to bring awareness about the ill effects of consumption of tobacco products and to give information about Kotpa. Due to the lockdown this year, school health program has been done in 1581 educational institutions and yellow line camp has been done in 2400 educational institutions. During the same period, legal and challaning proceedings for violation of the provisions of Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003, total 1115 challans were issued in all the districts and according to the information received from the districts, Rs 111200 was recovered.
Training and refresher training of trainers was organized on 05 January 2021 for better operation of the program under the National Tobacco Program, in which the Nodal Officer, District Advisor, Consultant and Social Worker of the entire District Tobacco Control Unit were trained. The implementation of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (Kotpa), 2003 and the E-Cigarette Ordinance, 2019 was organized in two phases on 19 and 20 January 2021, respectively, from the district level to the Labor Department, Police Department, Transport Department, Food and Drug department and health department and interdepartmental officers from state level were trained.
Under the guidelines of Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (Kotpa), 2003 and Tobacco Free Educational Institutions were organized in two phases on 8 and 9 February 2021 respectively, in which 3-3 representatives from panchayat department, education department from all the district And the Nodal Officer, District Advisor, Consultant and Social Worker of District Tobacco Control Unit were trained. Under the National Tobacco Program, an interdepartmental state level advocacy workshop was organized on 19 March 2021. Similarly, under the National Tobacco Program, training was given to the nodal officers of 28 districts, 2-2 dental practitioners and the counselors, representatives of the medical college, Taditha Dental College, on the subject of Tobacco Session for Health Care Provider.
In order to strengthen the National Tobacco Control Program, work is being done on the “Bloomberg Initiative” proposal in the state. Representatives of IMA and IDA were trained in relation to FCTC 5.3 dated 16 December 2020 in coordination with The Union. The interdepartmental training program under the National Tobacco Program was organized on 05, 17 and 24 February 2021 at Sarguja, Bastar and Baloda Bazar respectively. In which training was provided as a master trainer.

In the Global Adult Survey 2016-17, 39.1 percent of the people in the state were consuming tobacco products in any form. This survey is conducted by the Government of India every 5 years. In comparison to the survey conducted in the first phase in 2009-10, there was a decrease of 14.1 percent in the survey conducted in the second phase of 2016-17.
